Wall Pop Dry Erase Stickers

I'm always crusing Pinterest for new ways to make learning fun or a different way of doing things. Last year, we used the white boards a lot and I was constantly getting up and sown to get the white boards and markers for students to practice math, spelling or other activities we are working on.

I was on Pinterest and came across this idea for taking Wall Pop Dry Erase stickers that you put on your wall to putting them on your table you work at. I found mine at Target, but there is an actual website you can buy them on. They come in many different colors. My students love these and especially if they are waiting their turn. It allows them to write or draw quietly while I help another student and not disturb the other students.

They come rolled up, but are very easy to put on. I had to adjust mine a couple of times to make sure I got the bubbles out.

I put one in the middle where I sit, so I had access to one when showing examples.

 

You are able to wipe them off, but they do get to where you have to use the white board cleaner. I will be honest and you will have to scrub them a little. When I clean my tables with the Disinfecting wipes, I use them on the dots too.

 

All in all, I would highly recommend using these. I believe they are a great tool!!

Back to School!

Well......it's that time of the year to start getting ready to go back to school. If your a teacher you are getting your room put together and getting ready for the new bunch of kids and if your parents, it's school supply shopping.

I spent the majority of my day in my classroom. I organized and made my bulletin board.....by the way took pretty much the whole day. Every year, I look for a new idea instead of using the same old bulletin boards. I found an idea on Pinterest and ran with the idea. They used balloons, but I didn't have an helium to make the balloons stand up. So, I cut out 49 circles to make the body. I love to craft and so I got out my Camo and found an apple that had a bite mark taken out and used different papers to make design the apples.

It took me a long time today to finish putting the apples together, connecting the circles, laminating and the cutting it all out.

Whale Watch Game

I always love being able to find games to play with my students. Going through college, I was always taught not to load the students down with worksheets. Make it fun for the students and then they don't look and learning as something hard. With this game, you have fish, sharks and octopuses. The sharks and the octopuses have different things the students have to do with the cards they already have. When they pull out a fish, they have to read the word. In my room I never take the card away, I always help them sound it out. Here are a few pictures if the game in action.

Awesome School Shoes!!!

I came across these shoes on another blog and just had to have them. When I received them, they came in a milk carton box that was just ADORABLE!!! The school shoes look like they don't belong together, but they really do. Check them out!

 

 

Did I mention how comfy they are?!?!?! They look good with jeans or capris.

Tower of Language: Word Families

Besides playing sigh word UNO, my students love playing Tower of Language. It's the same concept of Jenga, but you have to read a word on the block before the student gets to keep it. With my students I normally don't take it. I help them sound out the word. For some reason, the students love it when they knock over the tower, they bust out in giggles and then want to set it up again and play it again.

 

 

This one is the word families, but they also have a sight word one and a couple of others.

 

 

 

Hen te tower falls and they all start laughing. Brings music to my ears. Also, after all the moves have been done, you rebuild the tower and continue to play.

Word Families

Sorry for not posting lately. I've been coaching track and soccer and it's been really busy. Along with all the Evaluation reports, IEP's and the referrals for the younger students that come in.

I found this activity awhile ago and I honestly don't remember if I got it off a blog or another site. The students love it and like running around the room looking for the lily pads that have the same ending of the card they have in their hand.

This activity has many different word endings, lily pads and frogs. There must be over a 100 word family cards. If I find it again, I will post the link on here.

I start out with handing the students a card and have them sound it out to me. Once they say the word they move on to finding the word around the room. I will lay the lily pads on the floor along with putting them in sneaky places for the older students. You might also have some of the younger students put them on the wrong lily pads, but you just have to correct them and make sure they understand that they need to look at the endings and talk about what words may go with the ending they put their card on the lily pad.

Fine Motor--Nuts and Bolts

I have come across that kids can have different types of motor skills that they need to work on. This activity makings working on the pincer grasp really good. This requires your two fingers to work the nuts and bolts together. I set it up so the kids have to determine which sizes go together and then having to use the pincer grasp.

For the nuts and bolts, I went and asked our janitor at school for different size bolts. He was so willing to help me that he gave me quite a few. Have I mentioned how helpful and funny he is?!?!?!?! If you don't have the. Around your school the local hardware store will work too.
